Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older. Professional brewers are also welcome as long as their beer is brewed on a home-system and not a professonal system.

This competition is open to ALL beer, mead and cider represented in the 2021 BJCP categories and sub-categories.

All entries shall consist of three 12oz,350 ml, crown-capped bottles (no swing-tops) or cans. This is strictly for uniformiity so we can stack cases of equal size in our refrigeration trailer. We are unable to make exceptions. NOTE: Attach bottle/can labels with rubber bands only; DO NOT tape or glue labels to the bottle or can!

For Mead entries and Mead entries ONLY. 3 Bottles of a minimum of 7 oz consitute an acceptable entry.

Make sure you designate the proper drop-off location on the pull-down when you enter your beer(s) on the registration page. Mark your beers' box or container "COHO Spring Fling" since many drop-off locations are accepting beers for several compeititions.

Entry fee is $10 (USD) per entry and we will only be accepting online payments. Please do not send or drop-off cash or a check with your entries. This is to prevent confusion and the potential loss of entry funds that we have experienced in the past. If you do not want to pay via PayPal on this website, you are able to utilize Zelle to send your payment directly to treasurer@cohomebrewers.org. If using Zelle, please indicate the entry number(s) that are being paid for in the comment section so we can update your entry(s) status accordingly.

All mailed entries must be received in Redmond, the shipping drop-off location, by the entry deadline - please allow for shipping time (the shipping deadline is approx. 1 week prior to the entry deadline).

All entries will be picked up from drop-off locations the weekend immediately following the entry deadline, on Friday, April 12th.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

This competition will be utilizing the BJCP 2021 Guidelines.

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

Qualified judging of all entries and feedback to the entrants is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.

Brewers may enter more than one beer in each category but may enter each subcategory only once. For example, in say category 25, participants may enter a Belgian Blond (25A), a Belgian Saison (25B) and a Belgian Golden Strong (25C), but may not enter two Saisons, etc., even if they are different brews (e.g. light & dark Saison). The exception to this rule is category 21B, Specialty IPA, and category 27, Historical Beer, since each has, in essence, multiple sub-categories. Additionally, Historical Beer & Specialty IPA are not limited to those listed in the BJCP guidelines; however, if the Historical Beer or Specialty IPA is not listed, the brewer MUST describe the style perameters so it may be properly judged. Spring Fling is recognizing Northeast-style IPA as a Specialty IPA.

The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on the number of entries in each category. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the top winners.

COHO logoed medals with neck lanyards will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers; Best of Show (BOS) will receive a plaque in addition to the respective gold medal; BOS runner-up, Second runner-up & highest scoring entry will all receive ribbons plus their respective medals.

Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
